Sorry, there's just not enough happening that I want to tell you about so today's report will probably be short and likely a mixed bag of shit.
Higher oil profits were reported today as "Big Oil" continues to pull the wool over all of our eyes in most every direction possible. If the government wasn't to "allow" this to happen you would think they would at LEAST be talking an windfall profit tax of some type, or be hauling their collective asses in front of a congressional committee to find out why they aren't pouring some of their profits into strengthening their own infrastructure (building ships, making safer drilling wells, or investing in alternative energy (they DO spend on alternative fuel- AN AVERAGE OF ONE FRIGGIN PERCENT!!!)- the last 2 of which would not only be mutually beneficial to them AND the US of A, but would also make THEM more profitable in the long run. Hoarding all those profits and not turning some of it back into the economic engine that drives them not only displays their greed, but is also their lack of national pride. I mean even the tobacco companies are forced to fund ad campaigns to stop smoking, if "peak oil theory" were real you'd think they'd at least spend a (small) percentage on an ad campaign 0n being consumption conservative- yeah, right!
I've watched our gas here in Michigan jump from $4.20 down to $3.55, back up to $3.85 a gallon all within the last week, and the Oil chain of profit would happily inform us that they really don't have much of a profit margin to deal with, and the market and our consumption actually drives the price- sure, we all swallow that line no questions asked.
Yep, the market drives oil prices while the oil companies whine that it would be unprofitable to drill here, besides those lousy liberal Dems (way ahead in the polls to win most any election in a few months) are all to blame for us having to import oil and make gas expensive because we can only refine so much at a time...So when oil was 50 bucks a barrel gas pressed 3 bucks a gallon, and now that oil is over 130 a barrel gas creeps over 4- ONLY 4?? There's an abacus around here that says that that plus your oil profits this last quarter just don't add up. If you love America, how about cutting your profit margin in half and only make 5.75 BILLION in clear profit apiece, resting assuredly that you are doing your part to help make America strong again. Wait---what's that??? Oh, pigs are flying out of my ass!!!
Sorry folks- I'll get off my soap box now and try to calm down. Tomorrow's blog will be about comics (I think), at least something a little more fun than me ranting about. I've got a slight sinus cold that whipping my ass a bit more than I'd like and that tends to make me testy!
In the meantime I'll close the door on my monkey cage today with a little Clutch Cargo cartoon madness. Make sure the soundtrack matches the lip movements okay?
Enjoy, and WAKE UP!!

Politics- UGH!
Most politics just turn my tummy! I firmly believe in a basic Libritarian viewpoint, but refuse to have anything to do with the actual political party because I frankly don't think they follow what they are supposed to believe in (Just like most all other politicians). I'm pulling for Obama, but if Clinton beomes the V.P. I will be seriously looking at McCain -not because I hate women, but Hillary has proven herself to be a kind of socialist/oppurtunist with a leaning towards corporatism (probably because of their money if you ask me), and I CANNOT stand to have her standing in the "on deck" circle because I've already had enough stress with Chaney. McCain isn't better by any stretch, but I will look closer at his campaign if Hillary is Obama's V.P..
Screw all that, let's have some FUN! I just got this in my email and thought I would share. Enjoy and WAKE UP!

"Abiotic" Pt 2.
Building on our last post here is a bit of a "primer" about our wonderful oil situation. Frankly the media spin is all scare with little if any REAL data, backed by a guy who made a theory in the late 50's that oil would eventually run out. BASIC common sense proves otherwise, though our entire sad accepted science, economy, and government would have you believe these untruths. Rationalize it out for yourself. Please watch the following video and WAKE UP!
Shocking ain't it? Apparently petrolium was labelled a "fossil fuel" when first looked under a microscope and seeing the organic matter mixed in with the oil. Organic matter that mixed with the petrol as it pushed its way to the surface. So you REALLY have to ask yourself, given the current advances in environmental protection, why are we getting all the hub-bub about drilling and re-drilling here in the States? Who's REALLY making out because of this? Green Peace and/or the environmental protectors, or the Oil Companies' rising profits and their scary "spin", based on totally unfounded science. The abiotic theory has more than been proven by the Russians (and their uplifting economy), and yet have you heard of ANY of the oil companies checking their old oil feild levels here in the States? Spin, spin, terror, spin if you ask my opinion. I promise to show you more on this as I find it, but really THINK ABOUT IT and remember for the longest time folks thought the world was flat and that the sun revoled around the earth just because someone else said it did.
WAKE UP!!!

Today's word is "Abiotic"
File this under the "everything you know is wrong" department. Unlike the previous look at Alien visitation this "theory" is backed up by fact, and if you REALLY think about it simple common sense. Take a look:
So, if you think about it this explaination of oil is much more sensible than calling petrolium a "fossil fuel", so why hasn't this theory been explored to more detail? Well, it should would disrupt our economic balance if petrolium was plentiful and all we had to do was drill down enough to find plenty (though the Russian and other economies- like the MidEast) sure are glad we haven't bothered with it. Oil companies are SOOOO happy this isn't out much either or else the price per barrel would be about the same as water (okay maybe tap water), and with refining and taxes (of course, the government MUST have their "taste") could easily make a gallon of gas on today's market about a buck fifty. In TODAY'S market!! WITH TAXES!!!
Like I said, "common sense" folks, everything you "know" you only THINK you know.

In Case You're Interested: SDCC 08 wrap up
The Madness known as the San Diego Comic Con is now concluded. As I type this folks are recovering, or flying, or sleeping off the wrap-up party buzz, and we the "unfortunate" are left to continue our daily affairs and go on with our lives content in the fact that we didn't have to spend the thousands of dollars and hours of stress and crowd fighting to learn what we needed to know about our beloved media for the year to come. Thankfully we have all the comics and media sites (not to mention the sad and ridiculous "coverage" brought to us on G4. Yippee!
I did not go. I am too poor and frankly my interest in the comic market has waned over the years, but I do still like to keep in touch with the news, just in case there's anything of worth that might be coming out. I HAVE gone to the Comic Con in the past- and I recommend to everyone that they HAVE to go, at least once. It is NOT a bad con, in fact given the whirlwind of attention and crowd that flock there it is a miraculously GREAT con. Very much a testament to what comics are and should be, and frankly if everyone there actually bought and read comics as a hobby the market would be twice as healthy for it.
For those interested, and because I now have this nifty blog to spout on, here's some of the key events and news that I have found to pass on. I warn you, this is just the news and shit that I've gleaned from other sources and my opinions on such. Here goes:
1) The Black Panther cartoon from BET had a teaser trailer shown that finally brought The Black Panther as a recognizable character to the level of the 60's Marvel cartoons. The writing was straight out of the comic, as was the animation. The fan's were totally dumbfounded and the miracle of the level of Flash animation they beheld. Watch this one when it comes out folks- it probably won't last long, BUT it IS classic- classically stiff and bad- BUT nostalgic of those great 60's cartoons I saw as a youth and just didn't know better.
2) Cloak and Dagger are getting their own series again, only this time it's a bit mangaled (spelling here should be correct- a combo of "manga" and "mangled"). The promotional illustration shows a much younger in the face Dagger, with tits about 2 holes up on the circle template than last time, and a Cloak looking like an old pedophile standing over her. Yes the fan boys will all be buying that one.
3) DC will be rolling both the Archie stable of superheroes and the entire Milestone line into their current DCU, because, well, because JMS wanted to write the Archie characters and DC finally convinced those holding the Milestone rights that they could use the jing BUT adding more minority characters to their current universe was NOT a deciding factor in picking up the Milestone line (wink, wink). The origins on most all the characters will remain intact. Dakota will be a city in the DCU that's always been there, and the Archie superheroes will all be brought into the DCU as if they've always been there as well, only through the pages of Brave and the Bold, so they'll get the "Batman Bump". No new titles from either stable was announced except that all the Milestone material would be reprinted in volumes to bring fans up to date. On a side note I HOPE AND PRAY that they take the time to recolor all the Milestone material because if they take the time to do it folks might actually not only read the stuff, but swear they've never seen it before.
This is the kind of whack-a-do thinking and planning that has made DC the kind of muddled screwed up mess since Crisis. Why can't both stables keep their own separate earths and make crossovers with the DCU directly or indirectly as the need fits. This continued over population just begs to bring in confusion. I always thought Crisis was a boneheaded decision in the first place as was praying that they'd separate again when DC did Infinite Crisis (as was rumored), instead all we get is more muddled confusion and characters who over lap. Sad to see because keeping the earth numbering system keeps it all nice and tidy, fosters creativity (and even competition if you split up the earths with different editorial teams), and begs for a nice set of "scorecard" history books for continuity buffs (which is an audience that both Marvel and DC totally have ignored the last many years), giving George Perez at least a good year or two's worth of work to do. Pretty sad.
4) Neil Gaimen and Kevin Smith are both writing Batman stories for DC, prompting cheers of joy for the Gaimen part and "WTF?" looks for the Smith part. Fans were assured that there were already scripts for 2 of the 3 parts of the Smithtacular endeavor already done, so the wait for the 3rd would end up being the hold up at this time to get a complete story. Let's hope Smith isn't doing for Batman what he was rumored to do with Green Hornet, or anything close to his "wonderful" rant on what he would have done with Lord Of The Rings. Somehow "Brokeback Gotham" seems like a working title that I would assume would fit if that was the case.
5) Joss Whedon actually DID have a Dollhouse panel (which the media said was in doubt given the fact that he was reshooting the pilot). Fan response to the teaser trailer was mostly positive with only one attendee given the mike to ask why the show looked so lackluster and dull. discussion of the "Save The Dollhouse" sites was mentioned, because the new series is on Fox and they canned the now classic Firefly after shakily airing 10 episodes. When asked about more Buffy Joss said he was getting his fix from writing the comics, so there goes that universe.
6) The Smallville panel announced that Green Arrow is now added to the cast full roster and the ninth episode will feature the Legion Of Superheroes, a moment that SHOULD have occurred in about the 3rd season, but hey, better late than never. Now if they could only get closer to actual Superman cannon, but that would be expecting too much.
7) Lots of what looked like ho-hum media panels as the networks all paraded out their media shows they pray would get a fan bump from the con. If you want a list go look at the media news and comic news sites,
8) All the little publishers below Dark Horse all got lost in the shuffle, oh wait that's really not news is it? Oddly I have yet to find any news of Boom, Tokyo Pop, or Viz on the news site- I'm still looking though.
9) Oh, and Martian Manhunter is officially "dead, dead", which means that DC is tired of trying to fit him in anywhere and screwing up more of his origin and looks, which frankly is probably a good thing.
To me that's all the relevant news- I'm sure there's more I could talk about, like Batman supposedly dying (which ALWAYS turns the character into a winner- sheesh look at what it did for Superman and Green Lantern), and all the constant fuss the Marvel boys had to deal with over their botched Spiderman reboot (serves them right btw), but really, who cares? I stopped reading most of the "mainstream" stuff when I realized that not only had they lost the initial spark of creativity, but that the "big two" figured that "realism" and "decompressed storytelling" were THE way to go. In other words I woke up.
I'm heading back to work now, I have REAL work to do. I was working most of the weekend instead of attending the Comiccon, like a LOT of other comic creators around here, in fact I've still yet to bump into anyone that actually attended from the mid Michigan area- anyone? Anyone?
WAKE UP!

Aliens?!? Pt 2
This link comes from the Discovery Channel page via a link from Fark.com. It is a further clarrification of some of the statements made by Apollo astronaut Edgar Mitchell about aliens and his work since his little space trip...

Yep- I'd chalk it all up to space sickness.

Aliens?!?
Well...I haven't seen this on the news, but it's speading on the nets. Apollo 14 astronaut now claims that aliens are real, the roswell incident is real, and full disclosure is imminent and already underway in some of the other countries. He also notes that the time for someone being killed for making alien cover-up claims is long past. Here's the YouTube clip of the radio interview:
Credible? Questionable? Plausable? Think about it and...

WAKE UP!
WTF??
Hey, this is Spank. Underground legend, Comix folkhero, Pissy American made money, and an in-your-face all around angry dude!
Those of you who know all about me can skip the next -- paragraphs- those that have yet to know me here's my "cred": I was created in the throes of a stagnate comic book convention in Philly, somewhere in the mid nineties. CFD's editor Pamela Hazelton was across the small "artist alley" room from, my creator and the CFD group got to talking about some of our favorite "underground" type comix, and he noted an old comix mag once printed by Marvel (of all people) called Comix Book that had a lasting effect on his childhood. Inside said Comix Book was a pissy bird (by one Grass Green I believe), named Flip who was opinionated and cranky. My creator said that if he were to do a strip like that today it'd be called Spank The Monkey, and soon, with nothing better to do at the con, suddenly I was born, along with my braindead cousin Shock. Soon I was a semi-regular feature in CFD's media mag Lacunae, and soon after that I and my cousin had out own one shot named SHOCK AND SPANK THE MONKEYBOYS SPECIAL #1. I was not given top billing because my name was considered too harsh at the time (and apparently still is by some though they all have sticks up their asses).
A few years later I headlined my own book for Arrow Comics, which was meant to be a one-shot "FUCK YOU" fluke but got so much attention from the distributor and the media that I haphazardly lasted four issues (which my creator mostly did pressed against deadlines and between getting everyone else's Arrow Comic to press except his own- a lesson he's painfully learned to never repeat). Soon, with the help of a few missed deadlines and creator apathy, my sales had slumped to below profitable, so I was to be canned- exiled to comix folklore.
Shortly after that Arrow Comics was waning and I was again ressurected, this time as a 3-issue "flip-off" of the comics market aptly entitled SPANK THE MONKEY ON THE COMIC MARKET. This time I did what I was intended to do and told the story of comic's past, then present, and now future as best as I could. Thise 3 issues are still recommended reading to a few college Sequetial Arts courses, and still hold up today as a primer on comics and the bastard industry that it has become. Once again I was knocked out of print, as well as Arrow Comics going into hybernation. In the meantime I was also started and stopped as a webstrip a few times, usually whenever my creator could think of something to say. but with the lack of passionate enough opinion, I have drifted on and off the web for a few years as my creator paid bills and looked for other outlets for his creativity and passion.
Then in 2004 I was brought back to life yet again, this time as a commentator for a local monthly newspaper in the Flint Michigan area (my hometown area, born and raised) called The Uncommon Sense until that venture folded in late 2006. Since then I've been popping up here and there, like in Fogel's Underground Comic Book Price Guide, and my own MySpace page: www.myspace.com/spanktmonkey, all the while I still sit in the back of my creator's minds as a voice still viable, and begging to be heard from.
So now, after much thinking and forethought I am back here with this blog, begging folks to "WAKE UP!!" and travel along as I learn and teach and rant and rave about all those things that are important to me. Sometimes we'll talk about comics, sometimes movies or other media, sometimes politics or religon (though not very much because frankly those subjects can be REALLY boring at times), bit mostly just plain "stuff" that I want to share, point out, scream and rant and rave about. I invite your opinions, though you'll have to put up with mine right back, and hopefully I'll provide you with an bit of entertainment and fun along the way- we'll just have to see.
I suggest you bookmark my blog and check in from time to time- I promise you I WON'T be daily, as my maker gets swamped from time to time, and sometimes, when he has way too much time on his hands, I might be MORE than daily- we'll just have to see. I also promise to do my best to not be dull, because the last thing I want is to be some stupid, dull blog here that no one gives a rat's ass about. If I wanted to be ignored I'd still be doing my webstrip- lol!
My philosophy about this blog is a simple one: "WAKE UP!", there are too many sheeple in the world and not enough free thinkers! Too many folks spouting off silly political, religous, and corporate dogma and not enough folks saying "Hey, that's just plain BULLSHIT!", so here I am, perhaps just an oddball nut, perhaps another silly voice everyone will ignore, but honestly just another moneky trying to get a nut (just like all of you), and willing to help folks make more informed opinions and stretch their minds, imaginations and perceptions and the like. I invite money, opinions, bloglinks, and comments, and if you enjoy this oddball collection of shit then let your friends know about me as well- the more the merrier.
I've got a few more odd things up my sleeve, as well as shamelessly hawking for my creator (Randy Zimmerman, owner of Zimm Graphix- check out his web page as well: www.myspace.com/zimmgraphix). You can check out most of my webcomics at the Arrow Comics site: www.arrowcomics.com. If you're nice there's a lot more comics where that came from too and some of it just might wind up here as we go along.
So if you see this, drop me a comment. If I'm more than 3 days late and you're pissed, drop me a comment. If you have shit to add, add it. If you have something to say, don't just say it, but say it LOUD enough for the whole class to hear.
Let's wake up everybody!
Wake up!
